Position Summary... What you'll do... About the Team: The Catalog team is responsible for the core systems that manage Walmart’s entire product catalog, powering both our physical stores and e-commerce platforms. Our work ensures that every item (from groceries to electronics) is accurately represented, discoverable, and available to customers at scale. We solve complex challenges in data modeling, high-throughput distributed systems, and real-time synchronization, directly impacting the experience of millions of shoppers every day. What You’ll Do: Own end-to-end delivery of features, from ideation and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and monitoring. Architect, design, and implement robust, scalable backend systems that manage product data at a global scale. Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver solutions that are reliable, performant, and aligned with business goals. Drive technical excellence through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship, raising the bar for engineering quality and best practices. Analyze and optimize system performance, proactively identifying bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement. Uphold a singular focus on delivering high-quality, maintainable solutions that enable Walmart to innovate rapidly while ensuring catalog integrity and consistency. What You’ll Bring: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science , Engineering, or related field. Minimum 2 years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of delivering backend systems in production environments. Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (such as Java, Python, or Go). Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and distributed microservices. Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design principles. Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases. Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines is a plus. Experience working in high-throughput, large-scale environments (catalog, inventory, or data management systems preferred). Excellent problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team. Passion for building resilient, scalable, and maintainable platforms that drive business success. Nice to Have: Experience with large-scale catalog , inventory, or data management systems. Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines. Exposure to e-commerce, retail, or high-availability transactional systems.
