Job Description What is the opportunity? As a member of the Wills and Trusts Resource Group (WTRG), the Senior Consultant will be part of the centre of technical and legal expertise on fiduciary matters for Canadian Wealth Management businesses. The role will primarily involve legal support, analysis and recommendations to RBC Canadian Wealth Management businesses on estate, trust and power of attorney account administration and maintenance issues. The position will support revenue generation through retention of funds by improving the client experience on estate settlements and the opening of new trust accounts, and will help minimize risk and promote consistency in business practices across RBC Canadian Wealth Management. What will you do? Conduct legal research, analyze and provide guidance on estate, trust and power of attorney issues escalated by the Canadian Wealth Management businesses and functional groups utilizing knowledge of relevant jurisdictional laws and principles and prioritize escalation of estate and trust account issues based on urgency of issue to provide timely recommendations Act as subject matter expert and support Wealth Management Canada businesses on estate, trust and power of attorney initiatives, policy development to manage risk and promote consistency in business practices across all lines of businesses Act as coach and mentor to junior consultants/consultants and to third party vendor on legal issues and documentation review and to be the first point of contact for consultants and junior consultants on legal and risk related issues and questions Accountable to remain current in developments in the area of fiduciary law (common law or civil law as appropriate) Represent WTRG and RBC Wealth Management at periodic internal and external seminars and participate in thought leadership activities (publications, presentations, etc.) Identify trends in estate, trust and power of attorney account related issues and assist the business in developing policies and procedures to address identified issues and gaps What do you need to succeed? Must Have Common Law degree and called to the bar in a Canadian common law province 5 years experience in the estate and trust industry and legal training Ability to work well independently as well as in a team environment Strong interpersonal skills, time management skills and ability to work under pressure Excellent written, verbal and electronic communication skills Exhibits sound judgment and problem solving skills Demonstrated ability to self manage, think independently and analyze complex issues Willingness to participate in continued learning of both civil and common law estate and trust concepts and principles Nice to Have Trust designation preferred (MTI or TEP) Bilingual in French and English What鈥檚 in it for you?
