Job Description WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? As a Senior Counsel, you will support the enterprise in achieving the business/operations, strategic priorities and operational performance goals of the Law Group, in particular the performance commitments of solution-oriented advice and responsiveness. You will provide legal services primarily to the Cards & Loyalty business team on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters. WHAT WILL YOU DO? Deliver strategic legal advice on a broad range of complex legal and regulatory matters related to credit cards, loyalty/rewards programs and merchant partnerships (including the offers program). Align legal strategy with enterprise-wide initiatives and business objectives Oversee legal input into new product development for credit cards, enhancements, and changes to client offerings. Provide legal counsel on the RBC Avion Rewards Program, including the negotiation of agreements with high-impact merchant retailers and third party partnerships, and related collateral materials. Provide legal advice on innovative offerings including linked loyalty and embedded value Act as senior legal advisor for the merchant offers program, directing legal strategy, negotiating commercial agreements with key merchant partners, and overseeing the development of client-facing materials and terms and conditions Support advocacy and industry work relating to credit cards and loyalty Collaborate with a cross-functional team including Compliance, Privacy, Risk, and other enterprise partners to enable innovative solutions while managing legal risk Monitor emerging legal and regulatory developments in a dynamic and evolving environment and provide forward-looking strategic guidance to senior stakeholders to support agile business decision-making WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED? Must-have: At least 7 years of relevant experience at a large law firm, financial institution or other highly regulated industry Bachelor of Law/Juris Doctor Degree (Common Law or Civil) from a recognized law school Membership in provincial/territorial law society or bar association. Called to the Bar in any Canadian Province or Territory Strong business acumen and ability to analyze legal risk in the context of business realities Experience in drafting and negotiating contracts and providing advice in connection with consumer protection Nice-to-have: Experience in providing legal services relating to the credit card ecosystem and loyalty Ability to communicate effectively and concisely with all levels of management and team members, and influence in a variety of formats and venues Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy Ability to analyze legal risk in context of business realities What鈥檚 in it for you?
