Job Summary This role, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting moderately complex financial, accounting, and economic analyses that support accurate financial reporting and compliance. The position plays a key role in journal entry preparation, financial statement support, account reconciliations, and audit readiness, while also contributing analytical insights and identifying process improvement opportunities. It offers exposure to regulatory and insurance accounting practices and opportunities to mentor junior team members. Position Responsibilities: Perform advanced accounting activities, including standard and non-standard journal entries, reconciliation of complex general ledger accounts, and preparation of state filings, footnotes, and financial statement pages. Analyze financial results, detect aberrations, and provide commentary on specific focus areas. Assist in month-end, quarterly, and year-end close processes and related reporting activities. Compile ad hoc accounting analyses for business partners and assist directors, managers, and team members with projects and analytical requests. Assist with internal and external audits, including year-end schedules and financial statement preparation. Demonstrate proficiency with reporting and analysis tools while working on semi-structured assignments within established guidelines. Mentor staff accountants and share best practices with team members. Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and controls. Maintain strong documentation and organization to ensure a clear audit trail. Required Qualifications: Bachelor鈥檚 Degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience. Typically more than 5 years of relevant accounting experience. Working knowledge of accounting rules, regulatory requirements, and business processes related to account reconciliations and regulatory filings. Demonstrated analytical and inquiry skills to interpret legal entity financial statements, board reports, and filings. Advanced knowledge of specific reporting concepts related to designated areas of focus (e.g., footnote disclosures). Effective communication skills to collaborate with colleagues and communicate issues to management. Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency in MS Excel and the Essbase add-in. Working knowledge of Lawson accounting segments, Essbase roll-ups, and JETS for journal entry creation and posting. Strong organization and documentation skills to support audit requirements. Preferred Qualifications: Background in Treasury and bank reconciliation activities. Prior general accounting experience. Commitment to developing and maintaining a working knowledge of CGAAP, USGAAP, and NAIC accounting standards within the insurance industry. Working knowledge of the life insurance regulatory environment, including SEC Product Filings, OFSI, and Statutory compliance.
